May 18, 2004.  Well it has been an adventure up to now.  With the problems with the vehicle in Sydney, rear axle seals were left out and front
bearings were not packed.  I did the rear axles myself with the help of Paul Duggan.  Went back to the shop who was suppose to do the work and
they put a reseal kit in the front end and packed the wheel bearings as I watched for no charge.  After repacking and stocking up with food I finally
got away late on the 8th of May.  Made Dubbo by the 10th and continued to reorganize.  Drove on the main roads to Coober Pedy and finally
started the Anne Beadell Highway at noon on Friday May 14th.  Had rained the night before. I thought Coober Pedy didn't get rain.  I was told that
it does not rain it spits at Coober Pedy.  I was also told that the areas 40 K around Coober Pedy get more rain.  They were right, the track through
Mable Creek Station was wet.  After I passed the station house I had 40 or so lakes of up to 400 feet to pass through. Luckily the bottoms were
solid and I only had a couple of slippery ones.  After the Dog Fence at the Tallaringa Conservation Park the track dried out.  Then it became
corrugated.  So bad that I could barely do 15 k at times. Staked a tire driving too fast and moving side to side trying to avoid the corrugations.  It
was a radial tire and I split the side wall.  Ruined the tire.  Made Tallaringa Well bush camp at around 6 PM.  Started for Emu and the atomic test
site around 11 AM on the 15th.  Flies were out at Tallaringa Well.  Made Emu at around 2:30 PM and went to the test sites.  Nothing seems to live
there.  I saw no birds or animals.  Probably still to hot.  No I don't glow at night either.  Continued on trying to make Vokes Hill Corner but had to
stop short because of darkness.
